FINAL EVALUATTION

FINAL EVALUATION

PRE-PRODUCTION AND RESEARCH

Starting this whole, big project in which we needed to do a music video appealed easy to me at first sight but then it got a little bit complicated because I had to deal with some unexpected problems but fortunately I knew how to deal with the most of them and resolve them.

Doing my pre-production helped me very much for the second time when I was filming , in the Lecture Hall but especially when I shoot at my house first time, because I was more focused on the shots and more prepared I believe to film than I was second time – second time I just had a rough idea of the shots that I wanted to take which wasn’t good because it made feel not that confident of my work  and it got me into the point where I wouldn’t know what other type of shots I could take, so for my Final Major Project I will try and  treat each time when I would record with the same focus and preparation .

Even though I did the research task I didn’t use it to link it with my video, especially the first two surveys feedback that I had before going into my production part which shook me a little and made me feel disappointed with myself because I realised the most important part that could help me so much was ignored by me, thus I ended up doing all this work for nothing. Therefore, in my Final Major Project I will make sure that I will certainly use and link my research with my actual video and take very serious the feedback that I will get from my audience.

Moreover, I didn’t push myself to have that much of feedback because I thought it was pointless and I don’t like people to give me feedback as it just makes me add and edit more and more on my work while I would like when its finished their feedback to not request me of adding nothing more to the actual idea or video , so in my Final Major Project I will try and even if I won’t possibly like what my audience says to still try and meet their expectations and stop being stubborn as I am .

PRODUCTION

My production went well in my opinion because compared to my first project, 30 second narrative, I have made some planning before the actual shooting and as I was in a team it made everything easier when it came to sharing and organising the roles that we needed to do when recording for examples when I was the camera person Kunbi would help me with the lights or Najma would show me how to balance the lighting on the camera as I wouldn’t know because back then I wouldn’t have had the lesson about it with John, so thanks to them I learnt how to manipulate the lighting before the actual lesson which was great. I was very pleased that we had enough time to get some good shots even if Viktoria was very late and I couldn’t contact her for half an hour which made me angry because I don’t like unpunctual people, especially when it comes to my production as we didn’t have too much time to record and because of her we were wasting precious time.

In contrast with how good everything wet and it was planned for my first day of shooting the time when I recorded the other half of my video was very unplanned, but even so I was surprised and lucky because we got some amazing shots and lighting and the shots that we took when filming in the Lecture Hall I believe made my video look better and more professional. We had the chance to experience with different filters of lighting such as green, red, purple and many other colours which I really enjoyed because it made me more willing to explore in my Final Major project as much as possible.

Additionally, we encountered some problems when it came to our second shooting because we didn’t book it with Greg therefore we got kicked out from the room exactly when we were about to start filming by a group of people who booked it with Greg. Thus this inspired me to verify for hundreds of times every detail before my shooting day so I won’t get myself in this situation again.

All of us were very angry, but what made me even angrier was the way he spoke to us when he asked us to leave; I don’t think he should have been speaking to us in that way, I didn’t like it at all. The only advantage of this ‘’waste of time’’ was that I learned how to set up the lights better and that after I forgot my SD card in the camera when handing it in I became more responsible of my footage and my personal things. Moreover, I will try and reman as responsible as I can in my Final major project as it will be crucial and my footage is the most important thing on my way to get a good grade.

Thus, I re-booked it with Greg after, but the inconvenience was that we would shoot after a week which I disliked it, because it would have been another waste of time and it wouldn’t go as I planned it in my scheduler but I didn’t have a choice. Even though it was good that we recorded and we had enough time to not miss our lessons too which pleased and relieved me thinking that I was now finished with the production.

POST-PRODUCTION

I had so many edits until I got to my final one and I didn’t like it because it just felt like I would never finish it, I even got bored of editing or watching it so many times, but on the other hand it was worth it because it pushed me to my limits and it made me get familiar to the amount of effort that I will need to put in my Final Major Project. The disadvantage of it was that the only time when I could certainly get feedback from my audience was my half term holiday , but I was struggling so hard to get at least 50 people to do it because they would forget or either they would be lazy as it was a holiday and I would need to remind them every time which I don’t like to do because some people don’t like that and I was scared that if I would do it they would get angry on me and not do it anymore. Even so there were some people who even left a comment on my YouTube channel and did my survey as well which really made me happy.

In addition to that, when speaking about the feedback that I got for my final edit of the music video I can say that 64.71% of my audience were teenagers and people my age who liked the lighting of my video or the message of it which really pleased me. Moreover, when asked what was the most enjoyable in my video, 37.25% of them said all the three areas were linked in my video: concept, performance and narrative but even so I think as Sonia said too that my video was more of a concept based because of the shots and the mood that it would set. I was surprised when 49.02% expressed that my music video made them feel thoughtful because to me it seemed like it was sad and very negative. Then, most people rated my video 4 stars out of 5 (5 being the best one) which at first sight upset me a little but then I felt better because I appreciated that they have been critical with me as it encouraged me to push myself even more for my Final Major Project and get only the highest marks.

The only thing that surprised me the most was that when I asked people if they would recommend the video to other people 3.92% said ‘’no’’ which made me feel angry a little because I felt like my work was very bad and I felt ashamed of it ; it never happened to me before to get this type of negative affirmation but I tried to understand it and thought that it is just their opinion and I should respect it even if I don’t like it . Also, in my Final Major Project I will try and get it as perfect as I can so anyone will like it and recommend it to their friends to watch it.

Lastly , I would say that even if my edit was very good I still feel like I could have done better as I could have had more shots which will replace the black pauses in my video because I think there are too many and I don’t like it that much and I would also imply more scenes with Viktoria and kids so the narrative would be easier to understand because as it is now there are too many shots with her crying or the ones when she is smiling are too long and additionally I think all of them are just making the audience to feel too overwhelmed . Thus, in my next project I will make sure that my edit will be the best and that my shots and cuts will have a rhythm and a nice flow to it instead of just mixing multiple of random shots in as I did in this project!
